Skills for the Knowledge Economy
FETAC Certificate in Business Studies (BBSXX) - NQAI Level 5

Skills for the Knowledge Economy This one-year, full-time course aims to provide both school-leavers and adult learners with the competencies needed for the Knowledge Economy. The information technology revolution has spread with lightning speed throughout the globe in recent decades. Accessing and manipulating digital data is now of central importance in the working environment of the new information age.

Engaging with this new network society - in which information has become a central resource - requires the development of new ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills, expertise in information research, problem-solving techniques and team working.

Learners on this course will gain an understanding of how digital information and communication systems function and how to use these systems to present and communicate their message.

Using a variety of Adobe and Microsoft software, students will learn how to produce and manipulate computer graphics; how to create computer presentations and how to produce websites. They will also hone their Internet research skills and gain an insight into online security and privacy issues. Students will also gain practical experience in using the collective intelligence of team-working and problem-solving techniques.

Career Opportunities

Successful students of this course will be prepared to take up employment in roles such as: assisting staff in report writing and presentations; assisting management to prepare presentations, internal and external communications; developing and maintaining the company website; facilitating staff to research information via the Internet and extract the relevant information from the abundance of material available; facilitating problem-solving in the company.
