Course Students

This innovative course offers students the opportunity to understand the many global influences that govern international aid and development.  It outlines the cultural, economic and political structures within which international aid operates.  It provides insight, analysis and the opportunity to reflect on this important area.

As Ireland's aid programme increases, so does the demand for skills and qualifications in international aid and development in the non-government organisations (NGOs) and the voluntary sector.

Ireland's Aid is delivered through the government agency Irish Aid as well as through many non-government organisations such as GOAL and Concern.

The course is developed with the school leaver and the adult learner in mind. Students who join this course come from various backgrounds - some have already volunteered overseas, some students are planning to volunteer for overseas development work.

All students have a great interest in International Aid and Development, and the role Ireland continues to play in this necessary sector.

This course will provide the qualifications and skills which are a pre-requisite for work in any of the non-government organisations.

Many students complete their work experience in the NGO and the voluntary sector, and this then places them in a strong position to compete for vacancies in these organisations.
