China’s rapid and sustainable economic growth has seen it become the world’s 3rd largest economy by 2009, and potentially the largest in the decade ahead. China’s 1.3 billion people have begun a process of integration into the global economy, particularly since joining the World Trade Organisation in 2001.
More importantly, in the current economic crisis, China appears to be the first large economy to begin the recovery process (Irish Business in China; Meeting the Intercultural Challenges, UCD Confucius Institute of Ireland Report, October 2009, p3).
Recent research shows there is now significant demand for Mandarin Chinese teaching programmes in Irish post-primary schools due to the growing awareness of its potential for academic, career and trade opportunities (Demand for Mandarin Chinese Teaching in Irish Post-Primary Schools, UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, November 2009, p36).
This course is designed for students who would like to gain skills, knowledge and confidence to do business in and with contemporary China. It provides participants with the knowledge of wider cultural and social issues that underline many aspects of business practice in modern China as well as offering Mandarin Chinese language training.
Students on this course will be equipped with the relevant skills and knowledge to cope with the rapidly changing needs of the international employment market.
