Day Courses: Programme for September 2010

Business & Environmental Management
FETAC Certificate in Business Studies (BBSXX) - NQAI Level 5

Ballsbridge College Students Policy-makers are keen to make Ireland a greener economy. A joint report recently published by Forfás and Inter Trade Ireland showed that the environmental sector has the potential to become a valuable component of long-term economic development in Ireland.

The recently-established Lord Mayor of Dublin's Commission on Employment has prioritised the green economy as an employment growth sector. The value of this sector to the island of Ireland is growing and is currently estimated at €3.6 billion (Sunday Business Post, January 2009).

"There is a significant awareness at a policy level of the possible value to Ireland from the green or environmental sector and its ability to create future jobs," said Martin Shanahan, divisional manager of Forfás.

Cetification LogosThis emerging sector requires a workforce with a specialised skillbase. There is a requirement for people with a knowledge of environmental technologies, business acumen and management expertise. Companies need staff with the traditional supporting business skills in the areas of finance, HR and marketing as well as new skills and knowledge. But in today’s business environment, a sound understanding of the principal environmental policy issues confronting businesses is becoming increasingly important.

This course will provide learners with a unique set of business and environmental management skills which will enable learners to access 'green jobs' in this rapidly expanding sector.
