Arts & Crafts

Painting and Drawing The first part of the evening will focus on drawing skills and improving the observation of light, form and colour. Students can then move into their chosen medium, either watercolour or acrylic paint. They are also free to use only drawing materials for the duration of the course, such as oil and chalk pastels or charcoal and coloured pencils. This course will suit both beginners and more advanced students.
The course runs for 10 Weeks at a cost of €120 beginning on Thursday 28 January 2010.

Introduction to Watercolour Painting is intended for beginners, but is also suitable for those with some experience. Various simple subjects suitable to watercolours are used – landscapes, flowers, interiors, etc. Basic drawing, composition, perspective and colour mixing are covered in the course.
The course runs for 10 Weeks at a cost of €60 beginning the week of Monday 25 January 2010.
There is a choice of days:

Introduction to Acrylic Painting is designed for those starting out and also for those with a little experience. Acrylic is a modern, quick-drying odourless painting medium which produces effects similar to oil paint. Students are encouraged to find their own subjects and develop them with the tutor. The basics of drawing, composition, perspective and colour mixing will be covered.
The course runs for 10 Weeks at a cost of €60 beginning the week of Monday 25 January 2010. There is a choice of days:

  • Mondays from 7.45 to 9.15pm (Code No 02)
  • Thursdays from 7.45 to 9.15pm (Code No 08)

Drawing - Beginners involves working with a range of subjects, including observational work such as still life. Drawing techniques and approaches to drawing will be dealt with. Students may use a range of media, under advice from the tutor.
The course runs for 10 Weeks at a cost of €120 beginning on Monday 25 January 2010.

Drawing - Intermediate is intended for students who have completed the College's Drawing course for Beginners, or a beginner's drawing course elsewhere. The course involves working with a range of subjects, including observational work such as still life. Drawing techniques and approaches to drawing will be dealt with. Students may use a range of media, under advice from the tutor.
The course runs for 10 Weeks at a cost of €120 beginning on Monday 25 January 2010.

Life Drawing involves drawing from a live model in the classroom under supervision from a tutor. There will be a range of both shorter and longer poses each session. Students may use a range of media, under advice from the tutor.
The course runs for 10 Weeks at a cost of €150 beginning on Tuesday 26 January 2010.

Materials must be supplied by the student. The tutor will advise students on the most suitable materials during the first class. General information on materials can be given at enrolment.

Enrolment for Evening Courses

Personal Enrolment for Evening Courses is on:
Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 January 2010 from 6.00 to 7.30pm.
Cash, cheque, Credit Cards or Laser Cards may be used to pay fees on these evenings.

Enrolment is also possible on Monday to Friday, 3pm to 4pm during the week starting on Monday 18 January 2010. Payment at these times is only possible by cash or cheque (no credit cards).

Fee Waivers: A small fund is available to help those who have difficulty attending a course due to the course fees. Applications for fee waivers must be made to the Principal whose decision is final.

Fees are payable in advance and are not transferable to another student. Cheques should be made payable to City of Dublin VEC. Please write your name and address and current Banker's Card number on the back of the cheque.

Refund of Fees: No refund of fees can be made except where a course does not form.

Rules and Regulations: All enrolments are subject to the rules and regulations of CDVEC, a copy of which is available from the Principal. A copy is also on display in the College foyer.

Class Calendar: Evening Classes start the week beginning Monday 25 January 2010.

Mid-term: The College will be closed for mid-term from Monday 15 February to Friday 19 February 2010.
The College will be closed for Easter from Monday 29 March to Friday 9 April 2010.
All dates are inclusive.

Parking: The road running through Herbert Park, which is a couple of minutes' walk from the College, has free parking from 6.30pm onwards. Before this time there is pay-and-display parking.

There is pay-and-display parking on Shelbourne Road up to 7pm on the opposite side of the road to the College. The College side is a clearway from 4pm to 7pm.

Always check on-street signage when parking, as it may be changed without notice.
